PESB approaches ACC on eligibility for board-level positions: Part I

Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that the Public Enterprises Selection Board has approached the Appointments Committee of Cabinet, recommending a set of major changes in the current selection process.
One of its recommendations pertains to the maximum age limit for board-level posts. Presently it is 58 years for internal candidates and 57 years for others. As per PESB’s fresh recommendations, the maximum age should be decided from the residual service left over i.e. 02 years for internal candidates and 3 years for others.
By recommending so, to some extent, the PESB has admitted its mistake as in the case of eligibility for CMD of TCIL where Rajesh Kapoor (Director, Tech- TCIL), an internal candidate, was not shortlisted for interview although he had two years of residual service on the date of vacancy but had completed 58 years of age, a matter which is pending before the Supreme Court.
