One may be surprised to know that dozens of posts in the rank of Deputy Secretary & Director are currently vacant in various ministries and departments in the Govt of India under Central Staffing Scheme (CSS). The Department of Personnel & Training released the vacancy details this week (on 13 Dec 2016) revealed that as many 73 vacancies in the rank up to December 15, 2016. The fact clearly underlines the increasing shortage of officers in the Govt of India as most of the posts can not be filled quickly in view of the procedures involved.
As per the data released, the maximum posts of DS/Dir are vacant in Ministry of Defence followed with a tally of five, while four posts each in Ministry of Home Affairs and UIDAI. Further, six ministries & departments have three posts vacant in each and seven departments have two vacant posts each in DS/Dir level.
