The latest grapevine indicates that NHAI Chairman Rajinder Pal Singh (Rtd IAS:1976:AP) may quit shortly. For the last few months the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has been making requests to his top boss that the NHAI Chairman should be asked to pack up but the PMO wants to give adequate time to the matter. Earlier, media reports indicated that the minister and the chairman had been at loggerheads for the last few months. Minister had blamed him for not having synergy and pace.
If some top sources are to be believed the recent extraordinary developments in top order bureaucracy has prompted the NHAI Chairman to start summing up his stint. The buzz has gained momentum also because top order decision makers have, reportedly, started recommending the names for NHAI Chairman.
His tenure is coming to an end in the second week of June 2015 as he was appointed as NHAI Chairman on June 11, 2012 for a period of three months or till he would attain 65 years of age.
The NHAI is an autonomous agency of the GoI which manages the network of over 70,000 km of National Highways in India. It is a nodal agency of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
