New Delhi (04.03.2021): The MHA is seen to have joined a raging shadow boxing between Haryana CM Manoharlal Khattar and state home minister Anil Vij, known for his overt political rivalry with the CM.
The latest round of shadow boxing between Khattar and Vij was triggered by the latter protesting against the CM's decision to extend the two-year term of current DGP Manoj Yadav that ended on February 20, 2021.
Yadav's tenure as an IPS officer will, though, end in July 2025.
Not limiting himself to protest, Vij asked additional chief secretary home, Rajiv Arora, to prepare a list of IPS officers qualified to become the DGP and send the same to the UPSC and the central government for consideration.  Vij's viewpoint is that, since Yadav had completed his SC-mandated two-year term as DGP, a fresh person be drafted in his place.
As the shadow boxing was seen as damaging the image of the BJP by projecting it as a party riven and plagued by internal conflicts, the MHA intervened on behalf of the CM and extended the term of DGP Yadav for a year till February 2022.
Incidentally, the MHA order on Yadav's extension was communicated to the  Haryana government through the same ACS Home Arora who was ordered by Vij to prepare a list for the selection of DGP.
Indianmandarins has been told that Yadava had already been empanelled for DG rank in the Central government and he had expressed the desire to join at the center but CM Manoharlal Khattar was keen on retaining him.
Yadav's extended tenure as Haryana DGP may not be the end of his career ladder as he is seen being groomed for bigger assignments as is reflected in his empanelment for a DG  rank in the central government.
