As Indianmandarins had reported first (see web-link below, dated 25 September) CRPF DG and retired IPS officer Prakash Mishra (1977 batch) has been re-appointed as Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards for a period of two years. Reportedly, he took charge on Tuesday.
The Appointment Committee of Cabinet had on Friday cancelled the appointment of P C Thakur (IPS:1979:GJ) as DG, Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards months after he declined to accept the post and proceeded on a leave in protest.
Earlier, it was speculated that if R K Pachnanda (IPS:1983:WB) is made NDRF chief, it may be merged with Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards. But the NDRF post has been upgraded from ADG to DG rank post to accommodate Panchnanda as DG in HAG+ post.
With the appointment to the post Mishra has got a tough task ahed to re-organised and modernize the Central Police Organisation which had been headless for years.
