The Manipur government has appealed to its employees to wear khadi once a week, say one every Friday.
Vivek Kumar Dewangan (IAS:1993:MN), Commissioner (Commerce and industry), the government of Manipur, in a circular to all departments, said: “This appeal is to the functionaries and employees of Manipur Government to recognise the quality and wholesome value of Khadi and wear once a week preferably every Friday.”
Sources in the government said the entire exercise would be voluntary but the idea is to increase sales. “Even if everyone buys one khadi garment, imagine the rise in sales,” said an officer. This comes soon after Government of Goa has asked its employees last week to voluntarily wear khadi once every week.
