The mockery of governance staged by Arvind Kejriwal and his followers in Delhi raises many grave issues that have far-reaching consequences for the functioning of parliamentary democracy. The scenes witnessed during the ‘dharna’ show that AAP has redefined democracy as mob rule. No civilised society can accept this display of lynch-mob mentality.
Kejriwal must realise that the people’s mandate for them was for good governance. Instead of resorting to agitations, he must go back to his office and deliver on his promises. Failure to do so will give excuse to others to defame him and his party. If AAP continues with its inchoate politics, this will certainly brighten the electoral possibilities for the BJP. If he falters, both Congress and BJP is going to gain, especially the BJP which is in a better position.
