IIS cadre- restructuring plan shot down

I&B Ministry

The Cabinet Secretariat has shot down the proposal of the I&B Ministry to create two more posts of Principal Director Generals for the Indian Information Service (IIS) officers. This followed representation by two DG level officers not to discriminate among them.

At the moment, the IIS has one top post of Principal Director General and six posts of Director Generals. To restructure the hierarchical order, the I&B ministry has worked out a plan to increase Additional DG level posts (equivalent to Joint Secretaries) from 36 to 55 and simultaneously upgrade two posts of DGs to the level of Principal DGs.

Following the Cabinet Secretariat rejection, the Ministry is said to be working on a new plan that aims at harmonizing the interests of all concerned.
