Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Anil Sinha has unleashed female power to handle sensitive cases. Stories abound in the corridors of the Bureau about the envious activities of Joint Director Neena Singh, a 1989 batch Rajasthan cadre IPS officer who has come to earn the trust of the Director and the PMO.

Her importance could be gauged by the fact that she is entrusted with the task of investigating and resolving the cases high in public visibility. To facilitate her in executing the jobs assigned to her, she has been put in charge of three special crime branches and the special task force, a first for a female officer in the history of the Bureau. As such, she is directly in charge of investigations into the Sheena Bora murder case as well as in the disproportionate asset case involving the brother of former UP Chief Minister Mayawati. In addition to Yadav Singh’s case (former Chief Engineer, Noida Authority) Neena Singh is also investigating into UP’s Rs 10,000 crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam as well as the murder of two chief medical officers of family welfare V K Arya in 2010 and B P Singh in 2011 and into the mysterious circumstances of death of deputy chief medical officer Y S Sachan in the district jail of Lucknow. All the three dead officers were involved in NRHM programmes. Since Mayawati was Chief Minister between 2007 AND 2012, she is also being interrogated by Neena Singh.
