The Delhi cabinet has issued orders restructuring the vigilance department. According to the new scheme of things, one officer of the rank of additional secretary or special secretary will be appointed as vigilance officer in charge of several departments.
Departing from the past practice, heads of department (HOD) will have no say in the vigilance inquiry.
“Vigilance officers of the rank of special secretaries or additional secretaries may be appointed by clubbing four to five departments. These officers will report to secretary of vigilance instead of concerned head of departments,” reads the order. The duties allocated to these officers will include surveillance of activities in the departments looking after complaints of corruption/vigilance, pursue pending vigilance matters related to gazetted officers, advise HODs for strengthening their internal vigilance set-up and also suggest remedial measure
