Coastal shipping: nine secretaries to meet on October 14

The fourth meeting of Inter-Ministerial Committee, comprising secretaries of nine departments, will now be held onOctober 14 and discuss issues of augmenting coastal shipping in the movement of critical inputs like coal, cement, steel, and fertilizers. Earlier, it was scheduled for October 03 and was postponed.
As per the latest information, as many as nine Union secretaries may assemble in the office of Union Coal Secretary at Shastri Bhawan to work out a comprehensive plan to extract the maximum benefits out of this ambitious project.
The nine secretaries concerned belong to the ministries of power, Steel, Petroleum, Chairman Railway Board, Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Food & Public Distribution, and Fertilizer.
The meeting will study and explore the possibility of synergy between the respective departments to get the maximum benefits of the potential of Sagarmala, an ambitious project of the NDA Govt. Ensuring the coordination and the synergy between the departments to reap the benefits of Coastal movements of cargo carrying critical inputs for industries and trade like cement, coal, petroleum products, fertilizers etc are no easy matter and hence the meeting.
