CBI’s DoP to have two-year term

CBI, Sanjeev Gautam, Controversial Officer, DIG CBI
The government on Monday fixed the term of the CBI’s Director of Prosecution (DoP) for two years. The DoP is a crucial office that provides the legal opinion on all the bureau’s cases.
The DoP will continue to function under the CBI Director, who also has a two-year fixed tenure. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued new rules and opened recruitment to the post for civil servants working in various ministries.
The DoPT order cited Sub-Sections 8 and 9 of Section 24 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, which mandate appointment of a person who has been in practice as an advocate for not less than 10 years as a Special Public Prosecutor.
