As many as 13 seniors sidelined to make way for new UP DGP

UP Government

The appointment of new DGP of UP over the head of 13 of his seniors has raised the hackles in the IPS circle of the state. S Javeed Ahmed (IPS:1984:UP) has replaced Jagmohan Yadav (IPS:1983:UP) who completed his three months tenure on December 31, 2015. Of the 13 officers superseded, nine are posted in the state and four are serving at the Centre.

The appointment is seen as an attempt by the Akhilesh administration to further placate and appease the state’s dominant socio-political segment as all political formations have started advance preparation of the next assembly election due in 2017.

It is also being viewed as a reward to an old loyalist who, as CBI Jt Director, helped the state’s Yadav dynasty patron in disproportionate asset case. Ahmed is said to have been one of the most favourite officers of former CBI Chief Ranjit Sinha, who, in turn, has been a blue-eyed boy of world-famed Lalu Yadav. Not surprisingly, Lalu’s hands (whose daughter recently got married into the UP Yadav dynasty) are also seen in the promotion of Ahmed.
