Come March, and all the Central Paramilitary forces, except ITBP, will be headed by officers belonging to 1980 batch onwards. Farewell, dear officers of 1979 batch.
May it be recalled that 1979 was a watershed year for civil services: combined civil services entrance test, following the Kothari commission recommendation, begun since has continued till today.
Appointment of Ms Archana Ramasundaram (IPS:1980:TN) as DG, SSB on February 01 was a first. In a break from the tradition, a lady IPS officer was appointed to head an armed police organization. Of course, Ms Aruna M Bahuguna (IPS:1979:AP) heads SVPNAPA and will be retiring soon (February 29, 2016), but that’s a different; though a top assignment.
Further, two senior most IPS officers – Prakash Mishra (IPS:1977:OR) DG, CRPF and Rjiv Ranjan Verma (IPS:1978:BH), DG, Railway Protection Force (RPF)- will retire on Feb 29. They would be replaced by officers belonging to 1979 batch onwards.
Finally, by the end of 2016, all officers of 1979 batch (serving in the Centre except ITBP Chief Krishna Choudhary who will retire in June 2017) will retire. Which means all central police organizations will be headed by 1980, 1981 & 1982 batch IPS officers.
